Rubens Ceiling

Please leave a review

The Banqueting Hall has an amazing painted ceiling. It was painted on canvasses rather than directly onto the ceiling. The artist was from Belgium - a Flemish painter called Sir Peter Paul Rubens. At first the paintings didn't fit. Although both Belgium and England measured in feet and inches, each country used a different length for a foot. Drastic moderations had to be made on site to make them fit.
