Toy theatres (originally called Juvenile Drama) were very popular in the 19th century.  They were collector's items for both adults and children . First of all the theatre would be bought and made.  Then printed sheets could be bought to create and stage performances.  There were hundreds of popular productions.  Productions ranged from Victorian melodramas to pantomimes and historical romances.
